The super simple marketing tip that too many businesses mess up.
Hey friends,
If you're new around here, the Thursday (well, Friday this week — oops) edition of the newsletter is meant to be short, quick, and easy-to-consume. It's a combination of marketing strategy and what I'm personally learning on a weekly basis.
'Cause I need to be honest with you — I'm very much still learning. Half the time, I'm winging it.
And that's fine, since most people are anyway. Now, let's get into the good stuff...
🧠 Marketing Tip of the Week: If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
If you've ever pursued a fitness goal, you'll know this feeling.
You're gaining muscle, losing fat, feeling better — everything's going right.
Yet, you feel the need to make adjustments. You consider cutting calories again. You consider switching up your training program.
Amateurs fall for this trap. Experienced trainees don't.
Experienced trainees understand that if something is working, you stick with it — for months, or even years.
Now, apply that to marketing. This past month I've been running ads for a law firm, and it led to a record breaking month. 55 consults, compared to 21 the month before I was brought on.
Yet, here I was about to fall into that same trap. Should I change the targeting? Should I try new creative? Should I try a new offer?
Truth is, none of that was needed. At least, not yet. In fact, changing things would have harmed long term results, throwing the campaign back into the Learning Phase.
If you find an offer, a piece of content, a distribution channel that works for you — RUN WITH IT.
Of course, testing matters. Don't neglect it.
Back to the law firm example, I'm still brainstorming new creative, new copy, new campaigns — because at some point the success will start to wane away.
When that does happen, I'll be ready.
But, resist the urge to change things for the sake of novelty alone.
📚 What I'm reading this week — Atomic Habits by James Clear
If you're remotely interested in self improvement, you've heard of this book.
If you haven't read it, I'd recommend changing that. I dove back into it this past week after having read it a few years back, and I'm glad I did.
My biggest takeaway from the book is how simple progression can be, and how small changes can add up to massive results over time. As someone who tends to overthink, the strategies in the book provided a helpful framework to start the right habits, and stick to them.
What are you reading right now? I'm always looking for new recommendations, so hit reply and let me know.
Edit: About a week in to implementing some new habits, and have built solid momentum. This week I’ve focused on dialing in my meditation and journaling habits. Not for everyone, but I notice these actions keep me in a good mental state.
Article of the Week - 100 Thieves' NEW Instagram Ads Strategy
This section won't always be one of my own pieces, but I wanted to bump this one up since it was getting such good feedback.
Even if you're a small business, I think you'll find value in understanding the 3 takeaways I discussed here. In short:
Paid media alone isn't enough.
A strong organic strategy allows for better retargeting.
How 100T uses extremely simple images and copy to drive conversion.
For a more in-depth breakdown, read the full piece here.
👋🏻 Pull up a seat, stay a while.

Next week, I’ve got a bit of a rant coming your way regarding the state of “health and wellness” supplement marketing in the gaming industry. And yes, there’s a big marketing lesson to be learned (even if you’re not in the gaming industry).
I’ll try not to offend anyone 🤷♂️
Talk to you then,
Tommy
PS - We’re sitting at 83 subs right now, and the goal is to hit 100 by the end of September. It’d mean the world if you shared this with a friend!
